Recent Alumni Spotlight – Tyon James

Alumnus Tyon James attended both the Economics for Leaders Program held at Cornell University in Ithaca New York and the Leadership Academy held in Washington D.C. in the summer of 2018.

Since his time in the program Tyon has been a great advocate of the FTE programs, recommending them to friends and youth of his community! Tyon is very involved in both his school and community, using leadership skills in many facets of his life. Tyon is currently the president of his high school’s National Honor Society, treasurer of the Black Student Union Club, photographer and editor for the yearbook club, an alumni peer mentor of the Principles of Success Motivational Program and a participant in the Riordan Scholars.

Tyon was one of the exceptional students awarded with a scholarship for the Economics for Leaders program in 2018. About his experience at Economics for Leaders and the Leadership academy, Tyon says it was “an opportunity unlike any other in which it was an enriching experience providing a common understanding and intertwine of both economics and leadership fundamentals.” He believes that the skills applied since attending the program have, “enhanced my leadership skills and given me the joy and aspiration to learn more about economics.”

We are so happy that students like Tyon are able to attend and contribute to the EFL programs!
