Recent Alumni Spotlight – Tyra Polich

In our recently distributed alumni survey, over 90% of respondents agreed that the Economics for Leaders experience was useful with the college application process. We caught up with a recent alum to see how the college application process was going throughout her senior year.

Tyra Polich attended our 2018 program at UCLA. Before attending, she had never taken an economics course though she had an interest in the subject and hoped to study it in college. After taking part in the EFL program, Tyra says, “I have become much more confident in my decision to select economics and/or political economy as my major when applying to college. I am really looking forward to expanding my knowledge in this area next year.”

Tyra also credits her time at Economics for Leaders for helping her this year in her AP macroeconomics class, “Each lecture was well-paced, engaging, and interactive, and I never left without having all of my questions answered. At the same time, each lesson was challenging, requiring us to apply the economics principles we had learned to real-life scenarios.”

Next year, Tyra hopes to combine her two passions of economics and politics to study Political Economy. She has already been accepted in to number of schools including the University of Michigan, San Diego State, Indiana University and Tulane University with substantial scholarships including the Dean’s Scholarship at Indiana University and the Distinguished Scholars Award at Tulane.

After college, Tyra would like to work for the World Bank or International Monetary Fund to promote growth in developing countries.

Best of luck to Tyra and all our seniors applying to college this year!
