Teacher Programs – Policies & Expectations

Teacher Programs - Policies & Expectations

The following policies and expectations govern FTE Teacher Programs. Please refer to the information below and reach out to information@fte.org with any questions.

Residential Programs

Admissions Guidelines – Residential Programs

Priority registration is given to high school and middle school teachers of economics, social studies, civics, government, etc. who are actively teaching in the classroom and who have not attended the same program in the past 2 years.  Teachers who have been asked to teach these topics in the near future are also eligible.

Second priority goes to active teachers at the elementary and college level.  Instructional aides, administrators, and curriculum directors (all those not directly responsible for teaching students), as well as substitute  teachers, will be placed on a waitlist, and will be admitted on a case-by-case basis.  We are unable to accept retired or homeschool teachers at this time.

Waitlist status notifications will be provided four weeks in advance of the program start date.

Registration Fees and Refunds

There is a $200 registration fee for all residential teacher programs.  This fee is payable upon registration and guarantees your spot in the program.

Registrants may have the option to bring a spouse/guest with them to share their room for an extra fee (site permitting).  If this option is available, registrants will be able to select this in the application and pay the applicable fee.

If your plans change and you need to cancel, we will provide a refund of 50% the registration fee, based on the schedule below.

Refund Policy – 50% of total amount paid until Friday, May 17, 2024 – after May 17, no refunds will be given.

Reach out to information@fte.org for any other payment or refund-related questions.

Attendance and Expectations

All participants are required to be in attendance for the entire program, and not miss any sessions.  Teachers who arrive late, leave early, or are unprofessional/disrespectful to FTE staff or other attendees may be asked to leave the program and will be ineligible to receive their stipend.

Travel issues that contribute to late arrivals will be handled on a case-by-case basis; contact FTE at information@fte.org to let us know ASAP of any travel-related issues that will impact your attendance at a program.

Stipends

Stipend checks will be provided to most attendees at the conclusion of the program; however, stipend checks may not be available by the time of the program for late registrants (those who applied within 3-4 weeks before the start date).  In those cases, checks will be mailed to attendees within 4-6 weeks of the prgoram end date.

Please note that stipend checks should be treated like cash – lost or stolen checks will not be replaced.

$600 stipend will be provided for residential program attendance based on the criteria above.

Participant stipends are available for each program every two years.   Commuter stipends are available each attendance.
