An Economist Goes to the Game: How to Throw Away $580 Million and Other Surprising Insights from the Economics of Sports by Paul Oyer

Description

FTE Teaching Fellow and Economics Professor, Dr. Jamie Wagner, will host a book club featuring Stanford University professor Paul Oyer’s recent book, An Economist Goes to the Game:  How to Throw Away $580 Million and Other Surprising Insights from the Economics of Sports.

Participants will participate in 2 asynchronous interactive Nearpod lessons. This session is designed to provide readers with the economics and sport economics content, lessons, and activities to bring the book material to their classrooms.

Participants completing the Nearpod assignments will be invited to attend a Q&A discussion via Zoom with the book’s author, Professor Paul Oyer on November 9th (4p – 5p Pacific).

Attendance/Eligibility

Participants must have successfully attended one or more FTE programs and employed as middle school or high school economics teacher.  Enrollment will be limited to 35 teachers, with spaces awarded on a first come, first serve basis.

Requirements And Important Dates

  • October 27th: Read Chapters 1-6 of the book and complete the Nearpod assignment by October 27.
  • November 8th: Read Chapters 7-9 of the book and complete the Nearpod assignment by November 8th.
  • November 9th (4p – 5p Pacific): Participate in the November 9th meeting with the book’s author.

Benefits

Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the book and $100 stipend upon successful completion of both the Nearpod session and zoom Q&A meeting.
