This new asynchronous online course from FTE (adapted from Socialism: Myths vs. Realities) applies the economic way of thinking to understanding economic systems. The course identifies the major themes of socialism, drawing from examples of the former Soviet Union, Poland, Estonia, Denmark, and Sweden. A closer look at how these countries provide public goods will be contrasted with the more capitalist systems of Singapore and the United States (among others).
The course units will take a closer look at socialism in particular. Data, analysis, and student activities will examine socialist thought and application over time. Instruction will follow proven pedagogical practices and teachers will be introduced to classroom activities to help their students better understand the realities of socialism, and how it compares to market-oriented systems.
