David A. Dieterle

Dr. David Dieterle is Professor of Economics in the Finance and Economics Department at Walsh College. Dr. Dieterle is the former President and Chief Academic Officer of the Michigan Council on Economic Education (MCEE). He also served as president of the Nebraska and Illinois state councils, and is affiliated with the Centers at Northern Illinois University and the University of Cincinnati. He is a National Teaching Fellow with the Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE).

Dr. Dieterle is Editor of Economic Thinkers: A Biographical Encyclopedia (Greenwood Press, 2013); co-editor of Government and the Economy: An Encyclopedia (Greenwood Press, 2014); and editor of Economics: The Definitive Encyclopedia from Theory to Practice (Greenwood Press, March, 2017).  He co-authored Social Studies In Our Nation’s High Schools: A National Random Survey of Social Studies Teachers’ Professional Opinions, Values, and Classroom Practices. His work has appeared in Social Education, and Newspaper in Education sources for the Chicago Tribune and Detroit Free Press.

Dr. Dieterle has consulted for the Michigan, Illinois, and Nebraska Departments of Education, as well as many organizations throughout his career, including Junior Achievement, Goodwill Industries of Northern Michigan, and Economics for the Clergy.  He has presented workshops and conference presentations nationally and internationally.  Dr. Dieterle made presentations to the Zambia and Malawi Ministries of Education proposing economic and entrepreneurship education in their national teacher preparation programs.

He taught elementary and middle school in Michigan Public Schools for eleven years and several universities.  Dr. Dieterle received degrees from Central Michigan and Purdue University, and his doctorate from Michigan State University.
